Melanie’s work has been produced by Hampstead Theatre and BBC Radio 4; theatre commissions & assignments from Royal & Derngate, ETT, Royal Court, Headlong and National Theatre Studio. Her debut play was longlisted for The Bruntwood Prize and received four star reviews from The Times, Time Out, Evening Standard, The Independent and The Arts Desk.
She was a member of Chichester Festival Theatre’s inaugural playwright’s scheme under the mentorship of Suhayla El-Bushra (executive producer of Ackley Bridge). National Theatre of Scotland nominated her to be their Pearson Playwright candidate.
For screen, Melanie is an alumnus of the Channel 4 Screenwriters Initiative, where she worked with Sian Robins Grace (executive producer of Sex Education). Her writing work, across all mediums, was recognised with the JB Priestley prize, a developmental award from the Royal Literary Foundation.
In the 22/23 competition season, her original TV screenplay The Incredible Kitty Fisher was a Top Four script in the Stephen Knight Prize (as selected by the creator of Peaky Blinders). Internationally, it placed as a semi-finalist in the Page Awards and Filmarket Hub’s TV Pilot Contest and a quarter-finalist for Final Draft’s Big Break
